Lock Haven - Ice Report (Roadside Gully, Gemini Gullies, Hidden Amphitheater) - January 24, 2020

It certainly has been a disappointing season this year. We finally had some seasonable temperatures this past week, but heading into the weekend, we are expecting rain and warmer temps. I headed up Rt. 120 North of Lock Haven today to see how the local ice was forming.

Roadside Gully still has sections of open water in the low angle approach. The steep pillars in the upper amphitheater do not appear to be touching down yet.

The Gemini Gullies have a good start, but nothing tops out yet. From across the river, the conditions appear to be still thin and delaminated.

I hiked up into the Hidden Amphitheater and assessed the conditions there. The ice is thin, wet, and not at all bonded to the rock. Water is flowing behind the ice and not much tops out.
